The Ultimate FAQ for Portable Power Stations

by OfficialAFERIY 30 Jul 2025 0 Comments

1. What should you know about the UPS mode of a portable power station?

Each AFERIY portable power station features a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) function, ideal for power outages or protecting sensitive devices, with a typical switchover time of around 10 ms.

When does UPS mode operate?

UPS mode is activated when the portable power station is connected between a wall AC outlet and household appliances, and both the power switch and the AC switch are in the ON position. The device automatically enters UPS (uninterruptible power supply) mode.

What happens when mains power returns while the load is running on battery? Does the power station automatically switch back to the grid?

The portable power station prioritizes mains power. When electricity is restored, it automatically switches back to mains supply while simultaneously recharging the battery.

What is the power consumption in UPS mode?

With no connected load, power consumption is low — generally between 15 and 25 watts.

Can the station remain plugged in all the time to stay charged?

This is not recommended. Prolonged connection to mains power can lead to premature battery wear. To optimize the lifespan of your portable power station, it’s best to unplug it when not in use for an extended period.

2. What are the best practices for using a solar portable power station?

To ensure the safety, performance, and longevity of your solar portable power station, here are some essential best practices to follow:

Using and charging the portable power station

  • Fully charge the unit before first use to optimize initial performance.
  • Use only the recommended charging methods (wall outlet, solar panel, or car cigarette lighter) and the original adapter.
  • Avoid prolonged charging after the battery reaches 100%, even if safety protections are built in.
  • If not in use, recharge the unit regularly—ideally every 1 to 2 months—keeping the battery level between 50% and 80%.
  • Respect the recommended charging temperature range (between 0°C and 45°C) to avoid triggering thermal protection.

Discharging and energy management

  • Do not allow the battery to discharge completely—recharge it when it reaches 10–20%.
  • Respect the maximum output power to prevent automatic shutdowns (e.g., 2400 W for the AFERIY P210 model).
  • Turn off unused output ports after use to reduce passive power drain.

Placement and storage of the portable power station

  • Place the unit on a flat, clean, and dry surface, away from dust and moisture.
  • Avoid prolonged direct sunlight exposure, especially in summer, to preserve the battery.
  • Ensure good ventilation, especially during charging or heavy use, and avoid confined spaces.
  • Store in a dry, temperate location (between 10°C and 30°C), with a partial charge between 50% and 80% if not used for an extended period.
  • Avoid corrosive or salty environments (e.g., unprotected coastal areas) to protect internal components.

3. Are AFERIY portable power stations compatible with an app? What features does the app offer?

Our P210 and P310 models come with a dedicated mobile app, allowing intelligent and remote control of your portable power station via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. The app offers the following features for advanced management of your power station:

  • Device pairing and unpairing
  • Viewing the status of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with network settings configuration
  • Real-time monitoring of input/output power and status
  • Remote control of USB, AC, DC outputs and LED lighting
  • Adjustment of DC charging mode and maximum charging current
  • Configuration of discharge settings and AC load operation
  • Enabling or disabling button sounds
  • Setting the screen sleep timer and auto-off delay
  • Smart energy management through charging schedules and power-saving modes

4. What should you watch out for when charging a portable power station with a solar panel?

Can I use solar panels from other brands to charge your portable power station?

Yes, it is entirely possible to use solar panels from other brands to charge our AFERIY power stations, as long as their specifications (power, voltage, output current) are compatible with the input range of the portable power station.

For optimal charging, we recommend using solar panels whose power output matches that of the portable power station, with compatible connectors.

If you’re using two or more solar panels, it's best that they are of the same brand, model, and specifications, and connected in parallel.

Can I keep a solar panel permanently connected to a portable power station?

This is not recommended. Even when there is no solar production (e.g., at night), a portable power station connected to a panel may draw a small amount of energy.

Therefore, we recommend connecting the solar panel only during the day, and disconnecting it at night when no charging is occurring.

Can I charge a portable power station with a solar panel while powering other devices at the same time?

Yes, absolutely. AFERIY portable power stations support simultaneous solar charging and discharging, allowing you to power your devices (such as smartphones, coolers, etc.) while charging via a solar panel. Our portable power station features an intelligent energy management system to ensure safety and stability.

5. What is the recommended tilt angle for effectively charging a portable power station with a solar panel?

To achieve optimal efficiency when charging a portable power station with a solar panel, it is recommended to position the panel perpendicular to the sun's rays.

Here are some practical tips:

In general, a tilt angle of 30° to 45° works well for European latitudes.

Manually adjust the tilt angle depending on the time of day or season to maximize sun exposure.

Avoid any shading on the panel, even partial, as it can significantly reduce charging efficiency.

6. Are all AFERIY portable power stations compatible with generator charging?

Yes, all AFERIY power stations can be recharged using a gasoline or diesel generator, provided certain essential technical requirements are met.

Important recommendations for charging via generator:

The generator must deliver pure sine wave AC power.

The generator’s output power should be higher than the maximum AC input power of the portable power station to ensure stable, uninterrupted charging.

Always operate the generator in a well-ventilated environment, and avoid frequent on/off cycles to extend the lifespan of both the power station and the generator.

Minimum recommended generator power by AFERIY portable power station model:

P310: This portable power station accepts a maximum AC input of 2200W. A portable generator of at least 2500W with pure sine wave output is recommended.

P210: The AFERIY P210 portable power station accepts a maximum AC input of 1100W. For stable charging, use a generator of at least 1300W. A model with voltage regulation is highly recommended.

P110 / P110D: These models support a maximum AC input of 700W. A small pure sine wave generator with a minimum power output of 900W is sufficient for reliable operation.

P010: This power station supports a maximum AC input of 400W. A portable generator of around 600W, with pure sine wave output, is recommended for efficient charging.

P040: The P040 portable power station allows a maximum AC input of 300W. It is advisable to pair it with a generator of at least 500W, ideally an inverter model, to ensure optimal stability.

7. How to choose the portable power station model that best suits your needs

Choosing the right portable power station mainly depends on three factors:

  • The type of use (camping, home, backup, etc.)
  • The power of the devices you want to run (in watts)
  • The desired duration of use (in hours)

By evaluating your actual needs, you can select a portable power station model with the capacity and output power that match your intended use.

Simplified calculation formula:

Required capacity (Wh) = (Total power (W) × Duration (h)) ÷ 0.85

Note: The division by 0.85 accounts for approximately 15% internal consumption of the power station.

Example

To power a 150 W device for 4 hours:

150 × 4 ÷ 0.85 ≈ 706 Wh

You would need to choose a power station with a capacity of at least 700 Wh.

8. Under what conditions does the AFERIY AF-P310 automatically shut down?

The energy-saving mode, which automatically powers off the energy storage, is based on two main conditions: no input and no output load.

If the AC/DC switch is turned on and no operation is performed for 8 hours, the small switch will automatically shut off. Standby power consumption during this time is typically between 15 and 25 W.

If the USB switch is turned on and no operation is performed for 3 minutes, it will automatically shut off.

If the AC/DC/USB switches are not turned on at all, the unit will automatically shut down after 5 minutes.
